Gap-filling foam double-sided tape for uneven surface mounting.

1. Product Overview

Foam Double-Sided Tape, as the name suggests, is a type of pressure-sensitive tape with foam as the base material and strong adhesive coated on both sides.

Think of it as a "three-dimensional adhesive system":

Base Layer: The middle foam layer (commonly Acrylic Foam, Polyethylene Foam, Polyurethane Foam, etc.). This layer endows the tape with compressibility, resilience and thickness.

Adhesive Layer: Upper and lower surfaces coated with the same or different types of strong adhesives (e.g., Acrylic Adhesive).

Release Paper/Film: One or two layers of paper/film to protect the adhesive surface, which must be removed before use.

The key difference between it and ordinary thin double-sided tape lies in the middle foam layer, which gives it unique properties not found in ordinary double-sided tape.

2. Main Applications

Foam Double-Sided Tape has a wide range of uses, covering almost all fields requiring bonding, sealing, cushioning, shock absorption and gap filling.

Common Application Scenarios:

Home Decoration: Hanging paintings, photos, mirrors, wall brackets, decorative strips, and skirting board fixation.

Electronic Components: Securing internal parts of mobile phones, bonding tablet batteries, TV nameplates, GPS brackets, and camera installations.

Automotive Industry: Bonding license plates, trim strips, sealing strips, sound insulation cotton, interior panels, and foot pads.

Advertising Solutions: Custom signage, directional signs, display boards, modular KT board assembly, and wall-mounted hanger installations.

Building Materials: Fixing glass curtain wall components, bonding elevator interior panels, and sealing strips for sunrooms.

3. How to Choose

(1) Adhesive Surface Material

This is the most critical factor. Different surfaces require different types of adhesives.

High Surface Energy Materials: Such as glass, metal, ceramics, ABS plastic, PC plastic, etc. Most standard Acrylic Foam Tapes can provide good adhesion.

Low Surface Energy Materials: Such as Polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP), Polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon), silicone gel, etc. These materials have smooth surfaces and are hard to bond, so Foam Tapes specially designed for low surface energy materials must be selected.

Rough or Porous Surfaces: Such as cement walls, plaster, wood, cloth, etc. Choose thicker tapes with strong initial adhesion to ensure the adhesive can fully wet the surface.

(2) Service Environment

Indoor vs. Outdoor: For outdoor use, select weather-resistant, UV-resistant, and high-temperature/high-humidity resistant tapes—typically specially treated Acrylic Foam Tapes.

Temperature Range: Consider the maximum and minimum temperatures of the environment. High-temperature environments (e.g., near car engine compartments) require high-temperature resistant tapes; low-temperature environments require tapes that remain flexible at low temperatures.

Chemical Contact: Will the tape come into contact with solvents, oil, or chemicals? Choose tapes with appropriate chemical resistance.

(3) Permanent vs. Removable

Permanent Bonding: Used for long-term, high-strength bonding. Once bonded, removal will damage the substrate or the tape itself.

Removable Adhesive: Used for replacement, adjustment, or temporary fixation. After removal, there is no or minimal residue, and the surface remains undamaged.

(4) Thickness and Density

Thickness: Thicker foam provides better gap filling, cushioning, and shock absorption, suitable for uneven surfaces.

Density: High-density foam offers strong support but is rigid; low-density foam is softer and more compressible, making it ideal for curved surfaces.

(5) Bonding Strength

Select based on load-bearing capacity and stress type (shear or peel force). For heavy-duty adhesion or high tensile strength, opt for high-strength VHB (Very High Bond) Foam Tapes.

4. Foam Tape Product Information Sheet

Project Description
Product Definition A tape with a polymer foam (such as polyethylene, acrylic acid, polyurethane) as the intermediate layer and coated with adhesive on both sides.
nuclear Structure Release material (paper/film) + adhesive + foam base material + adhesive + release material (paper/film)
Main Substrate and Characteristics • Polyethylene foam: Soft texture and low cost, commonly used for shock absorption and filling.• Acrylic foam: UV-resistant, heat-resistant and anti-aging, suitable for outdoor or harsh environments.• Polyurethane foam: flexible and fatigue resistant, suitable for bonding surfaces prone to deformation.
Major Function • Fill gaps: Compensate for uneven bonding surfaces.• Absorb energy: Buffer vibration and impact.• Dispersed stress: Reduce the pressure per unit area by surface contact.• Adhesive sealing: forms a physical barrier while bonding.
Key Parameter • Thickness: Commonly ranges from 0.2 mm to 3.0 mm.• Initial adhesion: the instantaneous adhesive force generated upon contact.• Adhesion: the ability to resist a constant shear force.• Peel strength: The force required to tear the tape vertically from the surface.• Operating temperature: Depending on the model, the function is usually maintained in the range of-30°C to 100°C, and some models can reach 150°C.
Typical Application • Electronic devices: Fixing and cushioning internal components (such as batteries and screens).• Automotive components: Adhesive bonding for trim strips, signage, and sound insulation materials.• Construction and installation: Fix signage, decorative panels and curtain wall components.• Daily use: Wall mounting for hooks and picture frames.
Selection Criteria 1. Surface characteristics of the adherend: material type (e.g., metal/plastic), surface energy level, and flatness.2. Environmental conditions: indoor or outdoor use, temperature, humidity, ultraviolet irradiation.3. Mechanical requirements: the type and size of the load to be borne (constant weight, impact, vibration).4. Lifespan requirements: Is permanent fixation required or can it be removed later?
Precautions • The bonding surface must be clean and free of grease, dust, and other contaminants.• After applying the tape, apply sufficient pressure to ensure full contact with the surface.• The bonding strength increases over time. Avoid maximum load during the initial period (24-72 hours).• For critical applications, it is recommended to conduct pilot tests in actual materials and environments.

5. Features and Benefits

Excellent Filling and Sealing Effect: Foam fills irregular gaps and cavities between bonding surfaces, achieving a tight seal to prevent dust, moisture, and provide sound insulation.

Superior Cushioning and Shock Absorption: The foam base effectively absorbs impact energy and vibration, protecting precision components and enhancing product durability.

Uniform Stress Distribution: Unlike point stress from mechanical fixation, the tape provides surface contact for more even stress distribution, avoiding deformation or damage caused by local stress concentration.

Lightweight: Much lighter than metal fasteners such as screws and nuts, supporting product lightweight design.

Aesthetic Appeal: Adhesive bonding eliminates exposed screw heads or solder joints, giving products a sleek and elegant appearance.

Easy to Use and Efficient: No drilling or welding required—simply clean the surface, peel off the release paper, and stick. Greatly improves production efficiency.

Excellent Aging Resistance: High-quality Acrylic Foam Tapes offer superior resistance to UV rays, temperature changes, and chemicals, ensuring a long service life.
