Product Processing

The production of Double Sided Foam Tape adhesive is a precision coating technology engineering, its core is to combine the adhesive evenly and stably on the foam substrate. The whole process can be divided into the following key steps:

Stage 1: Substrate Preparation and Pretreatment

1. Unroll and test the foam base material

The large roll of foam base material (such as polyethylene PE, polyurethane PU, or acrylic foam) is installed on the unwinding frame.

The process is equipped with an online defect detection system, which automatically identifies and marks impurities, holes or uneven thickness defects on the surface of the substrate through cameras or sensors to ensure the quality at the source.

2. Corona treatment

The foam base material is processed through a corona treatment machine. High-frequency high-voltage discharge alters the molecular structure of the foam surface, increasing surface energy and roughness.

Purpose: To greatly improve the wettability and bonding strength between the surface of the foam and the adhesive, and prevent the separation of the adhesive layer and the substrate in the subsequent use.

Stage 2: Precision Coating and Compounding

3. Adhesive preparation and coating

The solid acrylic adhesive raw material is dissolved in organic solvent to form a glue with a certain solid content and viscosity. Or use the solvent-free liquid adhesive directly.

The adhesive is evenly applied to one side of the foam substrate using precision coating heads (such as comma scrapers, micro-embossing, or slit-type coating heads), with the coating thickness precisely controlled at the micron level.

4. Drying and curing in the drying tunnel

The coated wet tape enters a high temperature oven up to tens of meters long.

The curing process is divided into multiple temperature zones, with precise temperature control. During this process, the solvent is completely evaporated (for solvent-based adhesives) or the adhesive undergoes a preliminary cross-linking reaction (for solvent-free adhesives).

Purpose: to form a stable, pure and final adhesive layer.

5. Composite with the first release paper

After coming out of the oven, the semi-cured rubber surface will be immediately pressed with a layer of release paper (or release film).

This layer of release paper is designed to protect the first adhesive surface and prevent it from sticking to other layers when wound.

6. Reverse coating and lamination

Flip the Double Sided Foam Tape 180°, repeat steps 3 to 5, apply and dry on the other side of the foam, and laminate a second layer of release paper.

Key technology: Ensure that the thickness and performance of the two adhesive layers are consistent.

Stage 3: Post-processing and quality control

7. Maturity

The coated large rolls are transferred to an aging chamber where they are left to mature under controlled temperature and time conditions.

Objective: To allow the molecular chains of the adhesive to complete the final cross-linking reaction, so that its properties (such as cohesion, viscosity) reach a stable and optimal state. This is the key to ensure adhesion and durability.

8. Slitting and Re-rolling

The matured mother roll is loaded into the high-speed slitter according to the customer order requirements.

The machine uses a sharp circular blade to cut the wide mother coil into the required narrow width (such as 8mm, 10mm, etc.).

At the same time, the coil is rolled again to control the length and tension of each coil to ensure neat coil shape.

9. Final Inspection and Packaging

The finished products after cutting are inspected for 100% appearance, and the key performance (such as thickness, initial adhesion force, peel force, etc.) is sampled.

Qualified products are labeled with specifications, batch number, length of rice and other information, and then packed against dust and pressure to prepare for warehousing and shipment.
